Known as the Queen of Disco, her work with Giorgio Moroder created hits such as “I Feel Love”, scrobbled by 146,965 fans and counting – and currently reaching #5 in Last.fm’s realtime track charts alongside current releases from Gotye and Carly Rae Jepsen.

With over 300 scrobbles every three minutes, she’s topping the Last.fm realtime artist charts over buzz band Beach House and perennials Coldplay and Radiohead – clearly showing the power of social media as it spreads the news, and fans old and new tune in.

Fans are also paying their respects at her shoutbox – as one puts it, “The Queen of Disco! Rest in Peace mama! xxxx”.

Among this year’s headliners, Foo Fighters comes on top in terms of audience numbers. They’ve picked up 3,193,498 listeners since 2005 and regularly feature in the global chart for the week’s most-played artists at Last.fm.

Skrillex might be a newcomer, but he too has had a huge imapct on those charts. His rather more modest 622,536 listeners actually becomes impressive when you realise he’s only been releasing music under that name since 2010.

Further down the bill the artists making the biggest splash include A$AP Rocky and Star Slinger. Both will be playing on tour together in Europe later this year, but meanwhile they’ve been leaping up Last.fm’s Hype Charts and breaking into playlists with tracks like Marnin’ (Star Slinger) and ‘Goldie’ (A$AP Rocky).

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White and Dave Matthews Band will all play to a rapt audience, but who’s currently topping the festival’s charts? Last.fm Trends finds out.

Make no mistake, Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of the world’s biggest bands. They’ve notched up 3,627,784 listeners around the world since 2005, despite dropping just two new albums in that time.

That’s why, when you compare Hangout’s headliners, they’re miles ahead.

Meanwhile, Jack White’s solo album Blunderbuss has helped him leapfrog Dave Matthews Band and carry a pretty strong fanbase into the weekend. His most-played solo track, “Sixteen Saltines,” saw 23,515 listeners in the last seven days, which is good enough to net him the sixteenth spot in the overall most-played tracks of the last seven days at Last.fm.

Dot To Dot Festival has continued to showcase the best new acts from around the world since starting in Nottingham seven years ago featuring the likes of Ladytron, Radio 4 and The Rakes. The festival now takes place in Bristol, Nottingham and Manchester and has put acts such as The xx, Mumford & Sons, Florence & The Machine and Metronomy on the map.

At #3 this week is a familiar face for all Britpop fans: Damon Albarn has finally added a solo album to his long string of side projects from Blur. Dr Dee is a folk opera in eighteen pieces, with tracks such as “Apple Carts” scrobbled by 4,416 fans over the past week and gaining Albarn a Hype Score of 518.

Gigamesh first appeared in the Hype Chart in November 2011, but it’s track “Your Body” that’s propelled the electronic musician and remixer to #2 with a Hype Score of 564. Included on the new Kitsuné America compilation, it’s already racked up 1,005 listeners and added to the buzz for forthcoming EP All My Life.

Describing their sound as ‘tropical grit’, NYC’s Ghost Beach hit this week’s #1 spot. Summery tracks “Miracle” and “First Time” are gaining serious blog buzz, with the former gaining 1,749 listeners over the past seven days. A Hype Score of 1,284 has put them head and shoulders above the rest, but can they hold on?

1. WHITE DENIM (Live at the Kazimier on Friday at 11pm) [Pictured]

“Main one that stands out for us are White Denim. They’ve been on our radar for a good couple of years now and are possibly the best live band I’ve ever seen. well worth a watch.”

White Denim’s latest album D was released in May last year and has so far contributed 387,142 scrobbles to their total scrobble count of 2,104,529.  “Street Boy” is the most popular track not just from the album but for the band overall. Listened to by 856 unique listeners last week, it has been scrobbled 71,296 times.

2. DJANGO DJANGO (Live at the Red Bull Studios @ The Garage on Thursday at 11.30pm)

“We’ve played with these boys a couple of times and everytime we have we’ve been blown away by their sound. Their album is awesome as well.” 

Despite forming in 2008, Django Django’s debut album didn’t see the light of day until January of this year but it seems like the wait has been worth it. Scrobbled close to one million times, the London folktronica group are creating quite a stir and it is of little surprise to see them highlighted as one to watch at Liverpool Sound City.

3. TALL SHIPS (Live at Screenadelica on Saturday night/Sunday at 1am)

“Tall Ships are another band we had the fortune of playing with while in Europe. I hadn’t heard much of their music before then but I personally was really impressed with the amount of energy they put into their live show.”

Formed in the South West of England, Tall Ships have released two EPs and, more recently, the single “T=0″. The single has been scrobbled 3,644 times since its release in April.

4. GALLOPS

“Awesome band from closer to home. even if you’re not particularly into their math rock style of music, they will blow your brains out with how talented they are. They’ve got a new album coming out soon as well. I’ve heard some of the songs live and they’re awesome!”

The Gallops’ bio states that their music has been described as “cyborg soul music” and hey, who are we to argue? Almost 12,000 Last.fm listeners have checked out their experimental offerings with tracks such as “Miami Spider” scrobbled 9,280 times.

5. WILLY MASON (Live at Zanzibar Club on Thursday at 11.15pm)

“Really looking forward to watching Willy Mason! Caught the tail end of his set at last year’s festival and everything about it was awesome, good songs and a really cool voice!”

Willy Mason falls just short of White Denim’s scrobbles but with 1,937,018 of his own his set at Liverpool Sound City is sure to be a highlight. The American singer-songwriter hasn’t released an album since 2007′s If The Ocean Gets Rough but a slew of successful EPs have managed to build him a solid reputation, especially on the live circuit.

For this week’s Tag of the Week, we put the disco into Discover: so fire it up, get up on the floor, and see what lies in wait.

Dolby Anol hail from Scotland and make slightly twisted dancefloor tracks such as “You Couldn’t Make That Up”, heavy with fuzzed-up beats. Meanwhile, the mysterious Diamond Vampires take the seductive side of disco and craft smooth retro gems such as “Forever”, available as a free download at their Last.fm page.

On the more chilled side of things, Siblings‘ “Think In Spanish” showcases a more sparse electronic sound, with understated vocals and a simple melody building to something more cerebral than your usual floor-filler. Taprikk Sweezee creates a sample-heavy track with an unmistakeable groove in “Newend (Taprikk Sweezee Core Remix)”, putting a modern spin on the disco/electro/hip-hop intersection.

1. Ghostpoet
“A really innovative artist who deserved his Mercury nomination last year. I think he will surprise some who haven’t seen him live before – although his album is brilliantly low-key, his live show is pretty dynamic and definitely one to watch.”

Certainly busy across the festival circuit this summer is Ghostpoet. His a debut album Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam will be 18 months old by the time his Summer Sundae performance comes around but with tracks such as ”Survive It” reaching just under 1,000 listeners every week, his set at Summer Sundae is set to be one of the most anticipated of the weekend.

2. Public Image Ltd.
“What can I say! True British legends will be gracing our Main Stage this year.  I saw them at Pohoda Festival (Slovakia) and Primavera (Barcelona) and can’t wait to see them headline Summer Sundae.”

It’s been twenty years since the last Public Image Ltd record but by the time Summer Sundae comes about there will be plenty for fans to get their ears around. Their vinyl-only EP release One Drop came out on April 21st and their new studio album This Is PiL will drop on May 28th. 3,227,079 total scrobbles to their name makes them one of the highest profile names at the festival and their set is certain to contain new and old material alike.

3. Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains

“These guys also played our Summer Sundae stage at The Camden Crawl this year and drew a good crowd there as they will at the festival itself.  They really impressed me at Eurosonic Festival and we selected them for Summer Sundae on the European Talent Exchange Program.”

Folk and indie is well represented at Summer Sundae and Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains are definitely one of the standout acts of this type. The wonderfully calm “City Kiss” has been scrobbled 5,993 times whilst “Les Plus Beaux” was their most popular track last week with 370 unique listeners. 4. The Black Seeds
“New Zealand reggae-funk heavyweights whose album ‘Dust and Dirt’ is currently number one back home.  If they don’t make you dance nothing will!  They’ll be playing the Summer Sundae Main Stage on Sunday 19th August.” 

The Black Seeds have well cleared the million scrobble mark – currently standing at 1,190,108 scrobbles. Dust and Dirt, their fifth album, was released early last month and has already been scrobbled 15,781 times. Tracks such as “Pippy Pip” are already leading the way as the fan’s favourites so don’t be surprised to see them belted out on the Main Stage.

5. tUnE-yArDs
“Merrill’s voice, style and strength make her a truly unique performer.  You’d be mad to miss this one…”

tUnE-yArDs last release, Whokill, came out in April 2011 but interest hasn’t waned one bit – “Bizness” was listened to by 3,526 listeners last week. It’s her most scrobbled track by some way, however, with its total scrobble count of 380,270 some way ahead of second placed “Gangsta” with 274,213 scrobbles. Either way, listeners most certainly agree with Rob Challice that the set is a must-see at the Summer Sundae Weekender.

Last.fm had the pleasure of hosting The Enterprise on the Saturday and the Electric Ballroom on the Sunday. Read on to find out who we managed to feast our ears upon.

Arriving early evening on the Saturday, we made it to The Enterprise just in time to catch the Last.fm lineup. Melodica, Melody & Me opened proceedings with their quaint folk sound (download free track “Hold On” here) before Sissy & The Blisters picked up the pace with their upbeat indie anthems. Tracks such as “Let Her Go” really got the crowd moving, however in keeping with the diversity on show at the Camden Crawl, it wasn’t long before Dam Mantle hit the stage to change the mood. His experimental electronica bestowed a chilled mood onto the audience, soon to be lifted by the appearance of Bastille.

The indie-pop act, led by Dan Smith, have been causing quite a fuss lately and, with much bigger headline shows to come, this set was one of most anticipated of the weekend. Hearing tracks such as “Flaws” and “Overjoyed” in such a small venue felt like a real privilege and that sense of witnessing something special certainly spread across the audience.

The next day featured a Last.fm pub quiz with A Question Of Scrobbles - the perfect way to start another day of music. Heading over to Koko we managed to catch young noise-niks The James Clever Quintet and Rolo Tomassi, before Kids In Glass Houses commanded a pack out crowd at the relatively early time of 5pm.

It was then over to the Electric Ballroom for the stellar Last.fm lineup to bring the weekend to a close. First up was Ghetts – a live grime band that managed to shake off any hangovers the crowd might have been feeling from the night before. Next up was Dog Is Dead, another act making serious waves lately. Their Local Natives-inspired vocal harmonies had the crowd swaying side to side and even breaking into dance with tracks such as “Glockenspiel Song”.

And So I Watch You From Afar probably haven’t had many DJs perform just before them before, but that is exactly what happened with the appearance of Youngman. The dubstep DJ brought in a whole new audience with him, with the Electric Ballroom transforming into a nightclub as soon as the first bass note dropped.

And then to our headliners. Last year the Northern Irish instrumental four-piece And So I Watch You From Afar released second album Gangs and they wasted no time blasting into that, opening on album kickstarter “BEAUTIFULUNIVERSEMASTERCHAMPION” and proceeding to play other tracks from Gangs and debut release ASIWYFA. The audience were soon in the palm of their hands, with the riff-heavy “Set Guitars To Kill” and the more restrained “7 Billion People All Alive At Once” showing how diverse they can be. If Camden Crawl needed a band loud, heavy and fun to draw the weekend to a close, it was And So I Watch You From Afar, and they accepted with aplomb.

Perhaps the highest profile new release, Tenacious D‘s Rize of the Fenix is set to bring ahead a whole new chapter for the comedy rock duo. It will be their first album since 2006′s The Pick Of Destiny – an album with 17,185,401 scrobbles. It falls just short of the self-titled debut which has 18,803,227 scrobbles. Regardless, both have been monumental successes for Jack Black and Kyle Gass and only a brave man would bet against Rize of the Fenix becoming anything less.

Next up is the second album from surf pop duo Best Coast (pictured). The Only Place will look to build on their current scrobble count of 10,850,909 (an impressive number from one album and a couple of other small releases) and with the title track from the new album already bagging 88,019 scrobbles, the forecast looks good. “The Only Place” is available as a free download HERE as part of the recent MP3.com feature on their label Wichita Records.

Lastly, a new album from Beach House. The dream pop pair can count 25,918,327 scrobbles to their name and will soon add fourth album Bloom to their growing repertoire. With the album recently leaking, fans have been scrobbling the tracks in huge numbers. “Myth” was listened to by close to 15,000 listeners alone last week, whilst older tracks such as “Zebra” and “Norway” are still commanding around 8,000 listeners every week. Their third album, Teen Dream, has proved to to be their most popular to date, being scrobbled 13,329,980 times.
