Proving that new names in music are just as vital as the names that become household entities, the Last.fm Best of 2010 boasted no less than ten artists who made the top forty with their debut albums.

Last.fm Trends takes a look at who these artists are and just how high their debut albums took them.

What is immediately noticeable is how the top two spots in the Best of 2010 are taken by artists with debut albums.

Whilst Mumford & Sons are placed at #2 with their debut Sigh No More recording 11,613,844 scrobbles, Ke$ha blew everyone else out of the water with her debut Animal. The 15,915,151 scrobbles took her to #1 with consummate ease.

Elsewhere, the artists with debut albums are spread fairly evenly across the top forty. As reported on Last.fm Trends last week, it has been quite a year for Two Door Cinema Club, who came in at #12 in the top forty with Tourist History‘s 6,929,522 scrobbles.

Three spots from thirty to forty were taken by artists with debut albums. UK electro-pop star Ellie Goulding took the #30 spot with her debut Lights, whilst Los Angeles-based indie folksters Local Natives and rapper Drake saw impressive success with their debut albums by taking spots #31 and #35 respectively.
